Windsurfing: Ynyslas Estuary
Wind Direction: WNW
Wind Stength: 30-40 knots
Surf / Sea State: Choppy
Air Temperature: 5ºC
Sea Temperature: 9ºC
Weather: Sunny spells
Max Speed: 27.0 (knots - unless stated otherwise)
Distance Covered: 2.6 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

The windiest day so far this year with gusts to 55 knots, and as it was high tide, there was nobody else around and the sea looked a bit mad I decided to head to the estuatry for some flat water speed sailing.

Rigged my 4.5m and wave board and headed out beyond the lee of the dunes... Knew I was going to be in trouble when it was difficult walking even in the lee of the dunes. Out by the point it was ballistic! Should have rigged my 3.4m really as I was having trouble holding on to the 4.5m. Once up and going and heading upwind a little I was in control, but bear away or go for a gybe and I had no chance. Consequently didn't really get any speed runs in. I did try bearing away at one point but everything got ripped out of my hands! On top of which there was closely spaced knee to waist high chop where I was sailing which isn't the best conditions for all out speed! I couldn't get any closer to the edge of the water as it was high tide and really shallow, so in order to stay in the channel I had to be 100m offshore where the water was far from flat.

Needless to say I didn't stay out long, but should have been a little more patient as it did drop slightly once I had packed up (or was that just my imagination?)
